The latest webinar session about productivity organised by COMEXI and MORCHEM on April 15th was a real success with a great number of attendees.

The presenters walked the attendees through value propositions to improve and optimise productivity in solvent free lamination processes, including a demo and a converter testimonial.

Our solvent free modular adhesive MORCHEM PL 262 A + CF-60 and CF-62 is recognised as an excellent tool to increase lamination speed having moreover a short curing process and a fast PAA decay.

We would like to thank all webinar attendees as well as COMEXI for the perfect organisation and also Mr. Galvez for providing his testimonial.

MORCHEM is proud to announce that we are Gold Sponsors of the SPECIALTY PACKAGING FILMS VIRTUAL SUMMIT 2021. The event will take place from 23rd to 25th March and will explore how to deliver competitive advantage through optimised design and use of innovative materials and technologies for retail and industrial flexible packaging applications in Asia.

In this context, our Area Sales Manager for SEA, Mr. Chi Kai Lee, will give a presentation about “Reducing VOC’s in the Flexible Packaging Process”, addressing a very important and topical issue in the flexible packaging world.

Our new development Morchem PL 277 A + CF-747 was tested at COMEXI CTEC earlier this year using Comexi SL2 laminating machine.

Morchem PL 277 A + CF-747 is a fast PAA decay and epoxy silane free solventless laminating adhesive especially designed to cover a high performances market segment delivering high chemical resistance on aggressive filling goods and thermal treatments including ALU, SiOx and AlOx laminates.

We would like to thank COMEXI for their cooperation during our visit at their COMEXI CTEC.

Please contact us at info@morchem.com in case additional information is required.

Our new development, Morchem PL 277 A + CF-746, was tested at Bobst Italia’s Competence Center earlier this year using BOBST VISION D 850 and NOVA SX 550 laminating machines.

Duplex structure PETp/PE-evoh-PE was successfully laminated at more than 350 m/min delivering excellent wettability and perfect optical appearance with no bubble formation at the given speed.

Morchem PL 277 A + CF-746 is a fast curing and fast PAA decay solvent free laminating adhesive especially designed to cover the high demanding market of double barrier films like PETp/PE-evoh-PE or OPAp/PE-evoh-PE and PETp/Alu

Given the postponement of Interpack, where MORCHEM will host the new BOBST compact laminating machine, both companies, BOBST and MORCHEM, in the coming months will offer converting companies the possibility to join us at Bobst Italia’s Competence Center at San Giorgio Monferrato doing demos running Morchem PL 277 A + CF-746 laminating PETp/PE-evoh-PE @ above 300 m/min on the new BOBST NOVA SX 550 solventless laminator.

We would like to thank BOBST for their cooperation during our visit at their Competence Center in San Giorgio Monferrato.

The new factory is focused on high volume polyurethane and polyester batches incorporating highest process and control automation in line with industry 4.0.

In record time, MORCHEM has set up its new production plant only 16 months after the laying of the foundation stone and will start production by end of April.

The company has made a powerful economic investment of more than 25 million Euros to respond to its strategy of growth and innovation.

The new MORCHEM plant is located on a 30,000 sqm plot and is the most innovative Polyurethane and Polyester production plant in Europe, including state-of-the-art installations and facilities such as:

  • Production tower incorporating fully automated lines according to the industry 4.0 concept
  • R&D Lab / Quality Lab / Application Lab
  • Warehousing: For safety and efficient storage
  • Production back up for all MORCHEM locations
  • IT back-up for all MORCHEM locations
  • According to most strict environmental protection
  • Highest safety for the team and the installations: Most advanced fire protection system

The factory is very innovative and has been designed and built applying the latest knowledge of production technology, with fully automated facilities, prioritizing process and personnel safety, environmental protection, product quality and process efficie

With the new factory we want to improve further our support to our customers and even to try to get ahead of their needs.

We continue at MORCHEM our activity as usual being considered critical and essential industry by the Spanish Authorities. We are devoting extra time and resources to our customers in the Textile Industry who have diverted their production to manufacture Personal Protective Equipment.

On 13th and 14th February, the 18th Inno-Meeting took place in Osnabrück. The conference theme this time was “Handeln” = “Take action” in the sense of reorientation.

With this in mind, our colleague, Erwin Jochim (Global KAM Morchem), held his presentation on the topic of “Continuous Challenges for Laminating Adhesives in Use for Flexible Packaging”. The first part of the presentation focused in particular on the security that adhesives have gained in recent years, always putting “Consumer Care and Safety” above everything with the latest launch of our epoxy silane free adhesives.

The second part focused on highlighting MORCHEM’s position towards laminating adhesives in terms of sustainability. Here MORCHEM can be proud to present its very recent development of a recyclable adhesive for standard packaging laminates such as PET/Alu/PE, OPA/PE, PET/PE which can be “delaminated” and films separated after use by using our own technology called MORCYCLING. Thus, plastic films and aluminium foils can be separated, recovered and reused.

As always, the meeting met our expectations in terms of content and procedure and was well attended by experts from the flexible packaging industry.

Nowadays the flexible packaging industry is facing enormous challenges. Not only plastics are in the eye of the hurricane, but all which is linked to its conversion, from inks to adhesives and coatings.

Certainly, the pressure on Solvent reduction has put stress on the adhesive manufacturers in order to achieve the highest performances, which were, until not long time ago, a niche for the solvent based adhesives.

Not only this, but the most complex question comes with the goal to produce a triplex structure in just one pass. Today, multilayer structures are worldwide spread and the majority of them are produced in Solventbased + solventless adhesives, if not Solventbased + Solventbased. The reason for that is that, as the solventless adhesives have really no high green tack, the initial two layers might glide one against the other while transporting them through the machine and prior to process the second lamination step plus rewinding.

It is for this reason that MORCHEM, one of the worldwide leaders in polyurethane adhesives, and in collaboration with COMEXI, has successfully homologated their SOLVENT FREE ADHESIVE MORCHEM PL 272 A + CF 74 in a triplex LAMINATING Machine in-line.

The adhesive used was the Morchem PL 272 A + CF-74 is a fast PAA decay solvent free laminating adhesive, specially designed to cover high demanding laminates, such us PET/ALU/Pe, nylon structures, and coated films.

The triplex structure was consisting of a printed PET 12 microns / ALU 7 microns / PE 50 microns, which was laminated at the outstanding speed of 400 m/min, delivering excellent wettability and perfect optical appearance.

These impressive results welcome the use of in-line solvent free triplex lamination, delivering a cost-effective alternative to a market segment which is currently dominated by solvent based adhesives.

From MORCHEM we would like to thank Comexi for their cooperation during this homologation; we are highly impressed about the outstanding features that this triplex line was offering, from an ultraprecise tension control up to a high class turret rewinder, with a unique pressure control system on the web that implies a zero sparkling effect with the smoothest result. Moreover, with their unique Cloud 4.0 platform we were able to monitor all the different trials with absolutely all the parameters set in each of them, which has been proved extremely useful for our internal reports and analysis.
